Just a Minute in…May

May 28, 2009

good eats

Watching… Food Network a lot lately, I have no idea why but it makes me pretty hungry.

Reading… mostly ‘Twilight’ fanfiction with a couple of real books thrown in. I got it read ‘Perfect Fifths’ by Megan McCafferty and I was so happy with the ending. 😀

Listening… to a lot soundtracks lately as well as music from musicals. I’m in a theatrical mood I think. Also Duffy, Adele, and Joss Stone.

Wanting… to be in shape for the summer. I’d love to join a gym this year.

Trying… to find a new job. Since I’m out of school I need to find a job so I can get out of my parent’s house. :/

Waiting for… ‘So You Think You Can Dance’. Since ‘American Idol’ is now over SYTYCD will become my new obsession once the new season starts next month. I can’t wait!

I first found this meme on Here Come the Sun but I managed to trace it back to it’s origin. So if you want to know more about it just visit August Street. I think that it’s a good way to reflect over what you’ve done, or haven’t done, for the past month.

Book Meme

book love
Projekt 52 – Woche 17 – Book Love

I found this book meme at Sushi for Lunch and decided to fill it out since I love books so much.

Hardback, trade paperback or mass market paperback? Hardback! I have both hardbacks and paperbacks but I’ve always liked the heft of hardbacks myself.

Barnes & Noble or Borders? Barnes & Noble. The atmosphere feels more cozy as opposed to Borders, where I can never find what I want anyway.

Bookmark or dog-ear? Bookmark, unless I don’t have one handy. I tend to use post-it notes because they stick to the pages. I’ve lost so many other bookmarks because they fell out. :/

Amazon or brick-and-mortar? Brick-and-mortar. I like to be able to pick up the book and read the back or the dust jacket. I like to feel the book and smell the pages. Plus I’m a visual person so I sometimes do judge a book by it’s cover. lol

Alphabetize by author, or alphabetize by title, or random? I keep books by the same author together, but other than that my shelves are in no particular order. Mostly by what I read and reread the most.

Keep, throw away, or sell? Keep! Unless the book was really disappointing, then I’ll donate it. But that has rarely happened.

Keep dust jacket or toss it? Keep it. Unless it’s just in the way. If I always have the book out I’ll throw it away because they always get ripped up.

Read with dust jacket or remove it? Remove it while reading. I’ve messed up so many dust jackets until I started doing this.

Short story or novel? Novel, the pay off just seems better. But if the author does a really great job I may read a short story or two.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket? Harry Potter. I’ve never actually tried to read Lemony Snicket though.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks? I try to make it to the end of the chapter if at all possible.

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time”? Neither. :/

Buy or borrow? Buy! Why would I want to give it back?

New or used? Either. As long as the used doesn’t have writing in it I’m fine.

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendations, or browse? I prefer to browse to get new books but sometimes I’ll go with a recommendation if it’s from someone who knows what I like.

Tidy ending or cliffhanger? Either if fine with me. I’m equal opportunity.

Morning reading, afternoon reading, or nighttime reading? Anytime reading. Who cares what time it is? Although I tend to read more at time just because of my schedule.

Stand-alone or series? I do both. The series has to be really good though and not start to suck after the first few books. I really hate that.

Favorite series? Any of the trilogies from Nora Roberts

Favorite children’s book? My ‘Roald Dahl Treasury’

Favorite YA book? Anything from L.J Smith

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard? ‘Privilege of the Sword’ by Ellen Kushner. I’m sure others have read it but no one I know has, so I guess it counts. 😀

Favorite books read last year? There are so many! I guess the ‘Twilight’ series.

Favorite books of all time? ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ and ‘Through the Looking Glass’ by Lewis Carroll. Always a good read.

What are you reading right now? ‘Perfect Fifths’ by Megan McCafferty

What are you reading next? ‘White Witch, Black Curse’ by Kim Harrison

Favorite book to recommend to an 11-year-old? ‘Spindle’s End’ by Robin McKinley. It’s a great remake of ‘Sleeping Beauty’ that I really enjoy even today.

Favorite book to re-read? ‘Alice’s Adventures…’ Something about it just keeps bringing me back.

Do you ever smell books? Of course! They smell wonderful and always make me feel better.

Do you ever read primary source documents like letters or diaries? Usually just for research purposes. But I should do it more often.

New Stuff!

May 1, 2009

I really need to stop buying stuff! I keep spending money when I really need to save it. Especially since I need new tires on my car. 😀 But whatever, it’s too late to be sorry about that. So we’ll just have to get over it.

Firstly, I got my Nintendo DSi. I was going to wait for it but Gamestop had a great trade-in offer where they give you $70 towards a DSi when you trade in your DS Lite. So, it was a win-win situation for me. Plus I traded in some games that I don’t play anymore so that was even more money off for me. Originally I would have payed about $175 including tax for the DSi, but with my trade-ins I only payed $75. So I got it for $100 off, it was totally great! I’ve been playing around with it and I looooove it! The cameras are awesome and I can connect to the internet. Plus I got a 1000 free points for their DSi games shop to get games for it. With the SD memory card slot and everything, it’s a pretty awesome system. 😀

I also got some totally cute Calvin Klein shoes from Macy’s. I saw some cute Coach shoes on sale too but the Calvin’s were like $40 cheaper so I settled. But I still love them. I’ll have to get pictures when I’m not feeling really lazy like I am right now. 😀 I just can’t be bothered. I also got my hair done. I got it relaxed and cut into layers. She cut it shorter than I expected but she also knows I don’t mind short hair so it’s fine. It’s cute and shorter is better for this hot weather anyway. Georgia is freaking hot right now and it’s only going to get worse. I really need to shop for summer clothes actually. Anyway, I really will try to get some pictures up soon. Since classes will be out for about 2 weeks, I’ll try to catch up on everything.
