1. I thought this article was very interesting. Three people were asked to navigate Moscow, each using something different for help. One used an iPhone, one a Blackberry Bold, and the last just a guidebook. It’s interesting that the person using the guidebook was the winner. Guess tech isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

2. Ok, this has to be the best hours signs I’ve ever seen! lol

3. I’m not the craftiest person around but I thought that this looked amazing. It’s fairly easy to make these leaf and flower prints and they look gorgeous in the end. I’m definitely going to be trying this out. πŸ˜€

4. The new “Alice in Wonderland” movie by Tim Burton is coming out next year on March 5th. I’m sure many of you have seen the concept art for it already but the trailer is also now released. I can’t wait for it!

5. Is is just me or are these camcorders really ugly? They are entirely too tacky. :/

Sunday Shuffle

July 19, 2009

1. Beautiful – Christina Aguilera: I loooove this song! I’ve always loved Christina and this song is just amazing. It’s inspiring and uplifting. And I love the melody.

2. As If – Blaque: I used to love this group! I think they were going for the TLC vibe. This song was for ‘Bring It On’ I think. And I loved that ‘N Sync had a part in the song too. πŸ˜‰

3. Bethena – written by Scott Joplin, performed by Randy Kerber: I heard this first in ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ (it’s the song he learns on the piano). There are different interpretations to this song, both fast and slow, but I really like this one. It’s in the middle and emotion seems to really show in this one.

4. Just Around the Riverbend -Judy Kuhn: Ok. I will totally admit that I love my Disney movies. Both old and new, I’m still a big kid at heart. I prefer the older ones though because they seemed a little more focused on the music. They were actually part of the movie instead of just the background. The helped tell part of the story. This is one of my favs from ‘Pocahontas’. Judy Kuhn is just an amazing singer.

5. Apple Pie A La Mode – Destiny’s Child: Who does not love this song! πŸ˜€ Their melodies are amazing and the song is just so much fun! If I’m not mistaken all of the music is made by their voices, except for the percussion.

6. Long Distance – Brandy: This is from her latest album which I do love. I’ve missed her while she was on hiatus. And this song is a great one. I love that her voice is just so unique.

7. I’m Scared – Duffy: Duffy is just beyond awesome to me. I already had some of her songs from her album ‘Rockferry’ but I heard this one first in the ‘SatC’ movie. Her voice is just so unique but beautiful. And the emotion in this song is just amazing.

8. Hit the Road Jack – Ray Charles: I love this song! It’s the old school in me. It’s just so much fun to listen to and you can’t but sing along to the chorus. Or maybe it’s just me. lol

9. Exhale (Shoop, Shoop) – Whitney Houston: This is, of course, from the amazing movie ‘Waiting to Exhale’. This is while Whitney was still in her prime. I love the message in the song and her wonderful vocals.

10. Bye, Bye, Bye – ‘N Sync: And of course it’s not a Sunday Shuffle without our favorite boys. And I swear I’m doing this on purpose. It’s all them! πŸ˜€

July 17, 2009

I know it’s been a loooong time since I’ve done one of these. Sorry about that. There just hasn’t been a lot that has caught my interest. At least not enough for a whole post anyway.

1. This first one is a profile on lookbook that is really awesome. I love her looks as well as the fact that she draws them as well. And her hat collection is just awesome. πŸ˜€ This is one of my favorite outfits.

2. The Uniform Project is a new site I’ve found. It’s very awesome. Here is an excerpt from the site:

Starting May 2009, I have pledged to wear one dress for one year as an exercise in sustainable fashion. Here’s how it works: There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. Every day I will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies. Think of it as wearing a daily uniform with enough creative license to make it look like I just crawled out of the Marquis de Sade’s boudoir.

I just think it’s too cool for words. πŸ˜€ The actual dress looks totally cute and can be worn forwards or backwards or open like a tunic. I’m really hoping when her blog opens that she’ll let us know how to make one because I would totally rock that in different colors as well.

3. This is an awesome video by Nyle for the song “Let the Beat Build”. The song is already awesome but the video makes it even cooler. The video was shot in one take with the song recorded simultaneously. Very cool and you have to see it.

4. I love this site called Steph’s Closet. Steph tracks down new nail polish collections that come out and shows how all of them look on your nail, not just the bottle. She also compares dupes in case you really like a color cut don’t want to buy an expensive bottle of polish. I also love her nail art.

5. And last but not least a nice article about the top 10 beach necessities. It’s common sense but a reminder never hurts, especially when it comes to sun safety.

6. I have to say that this is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. This clock is just awesome. I want one for myself.

Quotes to Ponder

July 15, 2009

“This is my wish for you: Comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth, love to complete your life.” Unknown

The Sparkles and Crumbs Sartorial Sharing!

July 9, 2009

This is a lovely tag from Sparkles and Crumbs. I never turn down something new to blog about. You can see the original post about it here. I don’t have anyone specific to tag, so if anyone wants to join please do so. πŸ˜€

How would you define your style?
Comfortable and preppy. Currently I’m still in my jeans, polo, and flats phase. I’m currently looking to change that, but I’m not really sure where I want to head. I’m leaning toward the clean menswear look. I love vests, blazers, and the like. We’ll see.

What is your favourite item of clothing EVER?
My brown low top Chucks of course. Best shoes ever!
chucks

What is said favourite item of clothing most suited to (e.g. sailing the seven seas as a free-booting buccaneer, a street carnival in Rio, afternoon tea at the Ritz)?
Everything except the most formal of events I suppose. πŸ˜€ Especially nice for casual sight seeing around town worn with a nice polo and a pair of khakis.

Share a fabulous or just plain entertaining style-related story!
Huh, I don’t really have one. lol It’s kind of sad really.

Who are your style icons?
The great Katharine Hepburn. I love her style and her confidence. She looked amazing in anything.
Katharine Hepburn

Which song should have been written for you?
‘A Woman’s Worth’ – by Alicia Keys

What is your favourite fairy-tale?
It’s always been a tie between ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and ‘The Little Mermaid’. ‘The Little Mermaid’ may edge over a little because I like the original in which the mermaid does not get the prince and turns into sea foam. Maybe I’m just morbid but I like the realness of it. You don’t always get your happy ending.

Favourite word?
‘Sesquipedalian’ which is basically a long word that means ‘long word and the people who like to use them. I just like how it sounds. πŸ˜€

Dream trolley dash locations?
There’s so many! Any Coach store or Sephora. But my ultimate shopping spree would have to be a bookstore. Take me to a Barnes and Nobles and I will love you forever!

Dream location for your future Vogue photo shoot?
London. I’d love to visit the entire city.

If you could hire one fashion designer as your personal tailor, whom would it be?
Right now I can’t really choose between Ann Demeulemeester and DsquaredΒ². If I could have both I would be very happy. πŸ˜€

Signature scent?
It changes all the time but right now it’s Clinique’s ‘Happy To Be’. I like that it’s not too overpowering. And it’s just a nice fresh smell. I’m not even sure if they offer it any more. I got it from a CCO.

Which era would you most like to live in?
The 1920’s, purely for the music. I would have loved to have heard artists like Bessie Smith live. I know that recordings just can’t do their sounds justice.

Most recent purchase?
I just bought some underwear on sale at Aerie as well as two scarves. They were one sale too so I couldn’t resist. I don’t know what it is about that store that I have to keep going there. πŸ˜€

A tough one… if you were a food what would you be?
Wow, this is hard. But I’d have to say Korean kimchi. It’s spicy but awesome. And it’s a side that you have which almost anything. It’s makes everything taste better. At least that’s my opinion. πŸ˜‰

And, finally – who is the love of your life (so far)?
I don’t have one at the moment. I just haven’t met him yet. (At least I hope that’s the case.) So right now I’m living vicariously through the leading men of literature. If there was one character I’d have to pick right now it’s everyone’s favorite vampire, Edward Cullen. I’m not going to deny that it’s a total cliche, but come on! Look at him!

Sunday Shuffle

July 5, 2009

1. Just A Dream – Carrie Underwood: I love Carrie in general but this song is just amazing. The story behind is just so sad and compelling. I loved the video for this one. All of her songs are like that.

2. If You Seek Amy – Britney Spears: No matter what anyone says I will love Britney’s music. She may lose her mind occasionally but her music is always on point. It’s catchy and fun. πŸ˜€ This song is just so funny to listen to. I’m constantly amazed by what they will let play on the radio. lol

3. These Words (I Love You, I Love You) – Natasha Bedingfield: I love her! Her sound is just so unique and amazing! And this song is just so fun to listen to and sing along with.

4. Here for the Party – Gretchen Wilson: Gretchen is just so fun to listen to. I love the pace to this song and her lyrics are fun to sing along to. I love this one in the car. πŸ˜€

5. Dirty Dancing – Black Eyed Peas: This one was from the ‘Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights” soundtrack. I love the Latin undertones to this song. Great song to dance to.

6. Leavin’ – Jesse McCartney: I love his music right now. His sound is much more mature of course. Great beats and lyrics. I like the R&B undertones in his music instead of the pure pop of his older stuff.

7. I Am Not My Hair – India Arie Feat Akon: I love the message behind this song. Being true to yourself and not letting the physical define you.

8. Confessions II – Usher: I loved this whole album from Usher. This song was just great especially with the video. I loved the beat and the fact that seemed a bit autobiographical considering his break up with Chili at the time.

9. Just Got Paid – ‘NSync: It’s ‘NSync, do I really need to say more? πŸ˜‰

10. Complicated – Robin Thicke: I loooooove him! He is just too cute and his voice is just amazing! I love a man that plays piano. When I first bought this album I had this song on repeat all the time. πŸ˜€
