Curious Tuesday…sort of

June 29, 2010

Sorry this is a little late, guys! Yesterday was beyond crazy. My internet connection was nonexistent and then I had to stay at work 2 hours late because of a delayed flight. Not fun, I tell you. Anyway, here is another week of Gala’s Curious Tuesday. Hope you enjoy!

1. Where do you find inspiration?
Mostly from books, music, and movies.

2. Have you got any hobbies or interests you’ve let lapse & wish you would take up again?
I used to love doing latch hooks. I started because it was something we did in a home economics class in middle school once and I kept doing it for like two years because I loved it! I even got my sister started on it for a while. I haven’t done it in years though because of lack of time. I also used to love doing puzzles. Especially those 3D puzzles that were really popular for a while. I will tell you, you realized how repetitive the Empire State building really is until you look at a 3D puzzle that is full of identical windows. lol

3. One tea party. Ten invitations. Who do you invite?
That’s hard! Ok, my four immediate family members and my best friend, Ana, make five. There is also Katharine Hepburn, Lena Horne, Lewis Carroll, J.K. Rowling, and F. Scott Fitzgerald.

4. Who was your favourite teacher at school & why?
It would have to be my first grade teacher, Miss F. Everyone was always so scared of because she was so strict, but I absolutely loved her because she was the reason I became such a good reader. I had a lot of trouble starting to read when I was younger but she worked with me tirelessly and encouraged my love of books. I will always be grateful to her for that. 😀

5. Have you ever been in a long-distance relationship?
Nope! 😀

‘Cruel Intentions’ is one of my favorite movies of all time. I loved the story and the characters, especially Ryan Phillipe’s character. 😉 Kathryn’s style was by far my favorite however. She was always chic and sophisticated, but not too over the top.

People are so hard on themselves unnecessarily. Don’t hate yourself for your mistakes. Instead, try to be kind to yourself.

I’ve been going through planner after planner this year and nothing is just quite right. However, Gala is in love with her Filofax. After reading her post I’ve been thinking about whether I want to get one as well. Check out her post if you are interested!

Who else thinks that the Bliss Pore-fector looks incredibly deadly? It’s like you can cut yourself on that thing! I would not want it anywhere near my face.

1. If it was your birthday tomorrow, what would be on your wishlist?
My own secret hideaway. Just somewhere cozy and lovely that I can escape to to read and daydream.

2. Do you look after your nails? Do you paint them? If so, do you have a colour that you keep returning to again & again?
Nope, not really. I cut them when they get too long and I occasionally paint them but I’m usually just too impatient. It takes way to long to dry and I’m wanting to do something else. If I do paint them it’s usually a dark color like Zoya’s Envy.

3. What star sign are you, & do you think it is accurate?
I’m a Scorpio and I think it’s very accurate actually. The good and the bad. 😀

4. What is something you have recently learned to appreciate?
Travel. We used to travel so much when I was younger and we haven’t really done that recently, especially as a family. It was a lot of fun to get away together.

5. What is your favourite city in the world, & why?
NYC. I was only able to visit once but I absolutely loved it. It was so busy and gorgeous. I would love to live there one day.

I’ve finally broken down and joined Tumblr. I’m really loving it. Especially fuckyeahbookshelves I’m such a book whore. 😉

I was completely blown away by this. It really puts things into perspective for you. Everyone should see it.

I have to say that eating healthy and on a budget is very hard this day and age with the rise of the cost of groceries and fast food chains. However, there is a site that boasts of a man that can eat well on $1 a day. In fact after the first month he extended his challenge and is into it with slightly modified rules. I have to say that it’s sounds pretty awesome. I don’t think that I could do it that well personally, but his site in general has some pretty good ways of saving on groceries. You should check it out.

And speaking of food, lately I have become absolutely obsessed with Japanesebento! I’ve been thinking out trying out this lifestyle for myself. It would be healthier and cheaper than eating out all the time. I’ve found different sites that offer recipes plus places to buy a bento boxes. My favorite all around site so far is Just Bento but Adventures in Bentomaking is pretty awesome too. And a good resource to buy supplies from is JBox. They sell a bunch of bento supplies plus other Japanese items.

I think that when people buy a new house or rent an apartment, a good view is almost always on the list of must haves. Unfortunately this is not something we can all get. However, here are some houses that did not have to compromise on that.

Summer Heat and New Eyes

June 15, 2010

Whoo! It is so hot around here! Everyday I wake up to heat advisories on my phone warning me of a heat index in the 100’s. Last week was so nice then all of sudden this weekend it’s cooking us! I can barely stand to go outside after 1 pm because it just gets hotter. And nights are ridiculous. I can barely go to sleep because I just feel so hot and sticky. :/ It’s really bad around here. I’m hoping that it will cool down soon. This Georgia weather is not my friend.

Anyway, onto personal news! Not too much going on but I did finally go get an eye exam. Might as well us that health insurance that I pay for. My eyes didn’t change much but I decided to try out contacts again. Last time I went in I didn’t get the contact specifically for astigmatism and I couldn’t stand it but basically they told me to just bear it. :/ But I went with Pearle Vision this time and they were super nice. They didn’t have my exact prescription with the testers they gave me but told me to try them out and practice for a few hours a day while they order the exact ones. Then I’ll go in and pick those correct ones up and try them out for a few days or a week. We’ll keep trying them to make sure that I like them, then I’ll buy them if I like them. If not I can just go back to my glasses. 😀 I just like that they gave me the option. I’m never going back to that previous doctor. I’ll probably still buy a pair of glasses just to have on hand just in case, especially since my old ones are kind of falling part. lol

Curious Tuesday

It’s another one! Aren’t you excited? 😉

1. Would you ever get cosmetic surgery? If not, why not? If yes, what would you want done? Nope! I can’t stand getting under the knife for something that’s necessary, so I can’t see myself voluntarily having surgery for something that’s not life threatening. And I happen to like the way I look just fine, there is nothing that I dislike about myself enough that I can justify having surgery for it. I mean, I’d like to be about 5 inches taller but I’m not about to have that surgery to lengthen my legs, thank you very much!

2. What is “your drink”? I’m not much of a drinker but I do like the Amaretto Sour. I’m not a beer girl at all.

3. What are your five fashion essentials? An over-sized bag, mascara, lipbalm, boots, and my pocket watch necklace

4. Do you have any tattoos? What are they? If not, do you want some? What would you like to get? I don’t have one but I really want to get one. I’m just not sure yet. I want it to be literary since I’m an English major and I love to read. I have some ideas floating around but nothing solid yet.

5. What is something most people don’t know about you? Despite my love of mocha’s and latte’s and most things caffeine, I can’t stand the taste of straight coffee. It’s weird I know. lol

I’m soooo bad! lol I promised myself that I’d slow down on the shopping so I can pay off my credit cards. But I just couldn’t help myself! Barnes and Noble is completely at fault here though. I mean how could I pass up the chance to finally get a nook along with a free $50 gift card? I mean, I really tried to be strong but I’m weak. And I have no problem admitting it. 😀 I just love the features and how small it is. I also love all of the free books I can get on it. Plus with the gift card I can also buy $50 worth of books for it. I get to test it out when it comes to convenience in July when I go to my family reunion. I always have a hard time on trips figuring how many books I can bring and which ones I want, but with the nook I don’t have to worry about that anymore. 😀

Anyway, right now I’m waiting for it to charge so I can play around with it. I’m not quite sure how it works yet, but that’s half the fun with a new gadget!
