Credited to weheartit

I’ve tried numerous times in the past few year to start and keep a journal. I’ve failed. A lot. I start, then completely lose steam a few weeks or even days later. But I recently came across my journal from my first year of college. I looked through it and realized that I wrote in it almost every single day! As I looked through it I realized why. I wasn’t strict about I put in it. I didn’t push myself to write a certain amount or to put certain things in it. I just wrote whatever I happened to think about at that point in time. Even if nothing happened to me that day or week, I just wrote what I was feeling or reading or listening to. I’ve finally realized that I was trying too hard. I tried to force myself into a certain mindset and that was just not working.

So, I’ve started anew. The only rule is that I don’t let myself get caught up in rules. I won’t try to force it like I did in the past. Just get my thoughts down, whether in written or drawn form or just pasting things down on paper. I will not conform to my previous thoughts about what the journal of a mature adult should be like. I am me, not someone else. My journal should reflect me and how my own mind works. Wish me luck!

  1. I did this when I was 16 – instead of trying to write in my diary EVERY DAY!!! and then feeling bad when I didn’t have time or forgot, I just decided to write in it when I felt like it. 🙂 Kept it for much longer than any journal before!! xxx

  2. Yea, it’s amazing how when you give yourself freedom you actually do what you wanted to force yourself to do in the first place. Did that make sense? Hahahaha… Good luck with your fresh start of journaling! I hope it is exactly what you need it to be.
